The Right (and Left) Shoe Storage Solutions

If you had been First Lady for over 20 years and every shoe manufacturer in your country had been dying to get you to wear their products so they can brag about it, you probably would have 3,000 pairs. It would then be a nightmare storing and remembering where your put which pair.

Fortunately, we usually do not have that many pairs. There are easy ways of storing our pairs of shoes in such a way that our house remains neat and uncluttered. Apart from this, storing our footwear properly will help avoid scuffing, creases and wrinkles, thus preserving them.

The biggest shoe storage furniture available is a shoe closet or cabinet. The bigger units can store up to 64 shoes while smaller ones hold 24 to 32 pairs. These are usually made of hardwood, though some are made from melamine laminated particles, with varying styles and designs. Some models have a single door while others have doubles. They can be positioned close to your doorway or bedroom. Shoes are stored either on shelves or in cubbyholes.

A more practical shoe storage solution is the dual purpose shoe storage bench. With this furniture you no longer need to stand on one leg balancing your teetering self while you raise your other leg to remove your shoes. You can, instead, unlace your shoes while you are firmly seated on the bench. Once removed, the shoes are lined up with your other footwear inside the shoe storage area.

Shoe racks are also an excellent solution to shoe storage problems. These can have 10 layers, with which you can store up to 30 pairs, or with only two. With the latter you have the option of buying a second unit which you can stack on top of the first. Racks like these are often made of steel tubes covered with white epoxy finish or chrome steel.

There are also floating shoe racks that can be hanged from a wall or a door, thus saving space. These can have shelves or pockets for shoe storage. Since these have to be lightweight so they do not fall off when hanged, they are often made of canvas, nylon mesh, or classic tweed.

Another space-saving solution is the underbed shoe storage. This looks like transparent luggage made of 12 gauge vinyl for durability. Usually, these can hold up to 16 pairs of shoes within flexible dividers. A strong rope-style handle allows easy pulling out from under the bed.

Plastic storage boxes are also available. These can be stacked high so you won’t have to worry about the real estate they occupy. They are transparent, whether in white or in color, so that you can immediately see what is inside it. Some models are equipped with handles, so that it is not only easy pulling it out but also to transport it if needed.

Before buying any of these types of shoe storage solutions, be sure that your shoes fit into them. Remember that not all shoes are of the same size. Just as you need to try shoes on for size before buying them, your shoes also need to try storage solutions on, also for size.
